WE HAVE A WINNER!
June 30, 2012 (in California…)
2:15 AM eastern...
My dry sense of humor may not be appreciated by everyone, so let me say up front that I’m just trying to inject a bit of levity into an otherwise arduous process… It’s 2:15 AM on the East coast, but at least it’s still June 30th in California… ;-)
Overwhelming is how I would describe the response from supporters on the last day of our drawing. For those of you who have been receiving regular e-mail communication, you know that we were well short of the minimum number of tickets needed to conduct the drawing last weekend. Thanks to your support, the promotion of great shooting industry related companies and the groundswell word-of-mouth campaign which took place, not only did we pass the minimum number of tickets, we exceeded it by almost 100 entries! Although still short of the 2,500 tickets which were available to be purchased, this is a high water mark for the organization and makes this event our most successful fundraiser to date. Truly, we could not have accomplished any of this without your help.
As stated in our last update, we would not conduct the drawing till all entries had been verified and responses had been e-mailed back to their respective donors. Due to the overwhelming response yesterday, my obligations to my “real job” and my family, and also owing to the fact that I don’t allow any of our student volunteers access to the database, this process took far longer than hoped.
However, I’m happy to report that all verifications have been completed and the winning ticket has been selected using the random number generator found at: www.random.org.
And the winner is: Nancy M. (and her very lucky husband) from Dallas, TX. Nancy owes me a photograph, and we'll post a shot of her with her guns as soon as we get that back from her, so stay tuned!
Thank you all so much for your support. Please stay on the lookout for our newsletter where we will be announcing upcoming events and highlighting some of the work your contributions have accomplished.
God bless you all!

CLARIFICATIONS AND CONCERNS:
We've received five or six e-mails asking similar questions, so we felt it prudent to put up a basic explanation of the processes involved in conduction the drawing:
Just to clarify, 1,598 tickets is the actual number of sold tickets assigned to donors. The initial database is set up, at the opening of the contest, for the total number of entries available. As donations are made, tickets are assigned randomly throughout the entire range, or pool of available slots. When the winning ticket is drawn, it is also drawn randomly, which ensures a "double blind" process to the drawing.
In other words, there's no advantage to anyone for donating early, or for donating near the end of the contest. Additionally, if someone obtains multiple entries, their tickets are distributed throughout the available range, not just clustered next to each other... Specifically, the winning ticket was neither the first, nor was it the “last” ticket assigned. It was actually assigned back in late May. So, for practical purposes of fairness, each entry has an equal chance of being drawn.
This model was set up to be as unbiased as possible, for all contestants, regardless of when their donations were made. We apologize if there has been any confusion and will work to make the process clearer in the future.
Thanks again!

Thank you for partnering with us to help others!
Your generous donations support our continuing mission and allow us to provide support to families during times of tremendous crisis.
Included with the Turnbull 1911 Set will be THREE COMPLETE HOLSTER RIGS from El Paso Saddlery. The three rigs will match the rollmarks to include a 1916 Cavalry rig stamped "US" and two "1940" rigs marked "USN" and "USMC" respectively. Belts will be sized to the winning ticket holder's measurements.
From the El Paso Saddlery website:
Since 1889, El Paso Saddlery has been producing the world's finest holsters and gunbelts. Whether your preference is cowboy action shooting, authentic western, modern, concealment, or military, we offer the premier holster to fit your need. All of our gunleather is made with premium quality materials and age old techniques that have been passed down from one superior leather craftsman to another. We do things the old fashioned way; handcrafting all of our goods from start to finish, just as we always have. Though our methods are time consuming, we are certain that you will appreciate the difference.
While we can't be all things to all families, our desire is to be a resource and a help whenever we can. By partnering with other organizations, we can help a family find assistance in their own hometown, and where appropriate, we will offer financial resources to families in need.
Our Advisory Board reviews requests for assistance and evaluates needs
on a case-by-case basis. Your generous donation allows us to continue helping others
throughout the country. If you are aware of a family with special needs, not limited to children with HPE, we would encourage you to have them contact us to find out how we can help.
Please note: Due to U.S. postal regulations (18 U.S.C. Section 1302), raffle ticket stubs cannot be returned by mail for purchases over the Internet, through the mail or by telephone. When an order is placed, we will add the donor’s information including name, address, e-mail address and phone number, into our database. Each “ticket” will then be assigned a computer generated randomized number. The winning “ticket” shall also be selected by using a random number generator, thus creating a “double blind” selection process. The winner will be notified based on the name and contact information provided by the donor, at the time of the donation.
